The congregation, being relatively young, is growing fast in number and in its spirituality as members strive for maturity in their missionary vocation.

The main charism of the congregation is first evangelization. Moved by the Pierced Heart of the Crucified Christ, the Sisters strive to proclaim the Gospel message to all peoples including non-Christians, to plant the Church among people who do not yet believe in Christ, and to bring the Church to its full development where it is already implanted. Their mission is to continue Christ's holistic ministry here on earth, thus redeeming the whole person. By this, the Sisters, in the spirit of a Good Shepherd, endeavor to liberate and alleviate those they serve from sufferings of every kind.

The Sisters currently work in East Africa, the United States, Italy, and South Sudan serving the needs of the most marginalized, especially the poor and children, youth, and women in remote areas. The Sisters strive to uplift the standard of living of these peoples through the following apostolates:

  • Catechetical instructions in parishes and dioceses, and training lay people, especially women in order to ensure that the Word of God will be known and remembered in the home and society.
  • Coordinating retreats, spiritual renewal and on-going religious formation programs.
  • Social ministry serving the poor & most vulnerable.
  • Education, teaching in universities, secondary schools, primary and nursery schools.
  • Pastoral ministry including primary evangelization and ecumenical activities through inter-religious dialogue, especially in Muslim dominated areas like Zanzibar Island, Tanzania and South Sudan.
  • Health ministry serving the needs of the most marginalized and those suffering from HIV/AIDS.
  • Currently there are 229 perpetually professed Sisters and 62 temporal professed Sisters. There are 16 Novices, 25 Postulants, and 45 Candidates. While a good number of the professed Sisters are in the field serving God's people, some are engaged in further education taking courses of specialization and other on-going formation programs.

In Africa, the Missionary Congregation of the Evangelizing Sisters of Mary serves in the following dioceses:

  • Nakuru, Lodwar, Kitale, Meru, Malindi and Ngong in Kenya.
  • Jinja, Kampla, Moroto, Mbarara, and Fort-Portal in Uganda.
