Missionaries of St. Francis de Sales
The congregation of the Missionaries of St. Francis de Sales (MSFS) was founded by Father Peter Mermier at Annecy, France in 1838. The congregation's prime charisms are evangelization and parish missions. The first MSFS mission in Africa, established in Tanzania in 1988, laid a firm foundation that steadfastly grew into the Province of East Africa. Established in 1996, the province now extends its outreach to the three East African countries of Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda. The province currently has eighty professed confreres. among which are forty-nine ordained priests.
These confreres are actively involved in a fervent pastoral apostolate, religious formation and social services. These services include sheltering street children, empowering women and providing medical services. The missionaries also administer many formal and non-formal educational institutions. Within the span of the past two decades, the congregation has also established missions in Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Cameron and Chad.
